Days 24 – 26
This is our journey so far. We are now in Darwin, which is on the other side of Australia.
Water Park
We went to a free water park in Darwin. Che thought it was one of the best things we had done so far.
Matt shot Mum with the water cannon lots of times.
These are the water slides that we went on. The yellow one is the fastest one. The red one has a boat. The blue one is the slowest one.
Che is coming out of the water slide. If you took a film of it, it would be very fast and there would be a big splash.
We came out of the water slide on the boat and it made a big splash.
Matt came out of the water slide as well. If you lay on your back you went a bit faster. But he is sitting up because he didn’t want to get the water up his nose.
Fish Feeding
Mum is feeding diamond scaled mullet.
Matt fed the fish bread.
Che is surrounded by fish. They are mullet but there might be a milk fish among them.
This is a toad fish. Che says it’s a puffer fish.
This is Matt feeding lots of fish at the same time.
We are feeding the milk fish.
This is an underwater view of the fish. Dad took a film of a milk fish that sucked on the camera.
We are standing in the water at the top of Australia.
We are standing on a boat ramp.
Here is a sting ray and a flat hat. Can you see them and tell them apart?
These are mangroves. We are near central Darwin.
We went to the museum but we don’t have any photos because we weren’t allowed to take photos. We saw a taxidermy crocodile called Sweetheart. It was 5 metres long. There was a recording of its noise which sounded like an outboard motor.
Mindil Beach / Market
We went to the market at Mindil Beach. We ate tea there. Matt had chicken nuggets and chips. Che had a crocodile burger. It tasted like a chicken burger.
We went to the beach and saw lots of tiny crabs. They ran away when they saw us. They made cool pictures on the beach with the sand balls they dug out of their holes.
Che is trying to crack a whip without very much success.
Always thought mum would look good with a mullet.
The water park looks like a blast!

How many fish do you reckon were trying to get a feed from you. I have never heard of milk fish; how big are they? Are they good to eat? Why do they call them milk fish?
The water park reminds me of the one in Kuala Lumpur where the slides were a bit scary especially for an old grandpa. Were you scared?

Dad thinks there were thousands of fish there.
Matt fed 6 or 7 at once.
Milk fish are a milky colour and suck on your fingers like a baby drinking milk. We don’t know if they are good to eat. They are up to 1 metre long.
We weren’t scared at the water park. Mum was a bit as first, then she got braver.

From your travelblog it looks like you are having a great adventure and the photos are as scenic as any I have seen of the Northern Territory, especially the water photos of your recent hot spring swims and dives.You mentioned swimming in the cold pool at Edith Falls, are any of the pools at Edith Falls warm?
Interesting aboriginal rock art, some on cliff faces that look from the photos as if the painters would have needed to climb scaffolding to do their art.
In your postcard you mention seeing sunset on your Yellow Waters cruise, what time does the sun set up there this time of year? One of my favourite photos is at Gunlom Falls with the water in the foreground, people in middle and magnificent vista in background. Also the view from the summit at Ubirr Rock looked amazing, I imagine waching the sunset from there even more so.
The Darwin water park looked fun for kids of all ages.Matt looks like he`s having lots of fun shooting Mum with the water cannon.
I agree with Che, I would also call a toadfish a puffer fish, but I`m no expert .The stingray and fish were very well camouflaged,in South Australia I would think the fish was a flathead but Territorians may have their own lingo.
Very adventurous Che eating the crocodile burger at Mindil Beach market, though I am not surprised Matt stuck to his ol` favourite chicken nuggets and chips. Did Mum and Dad try any native animal or reptile food?
Keep exploring and enjoying the lucky country, lucky people especially the warmth, its been hailing, rain and windy today in Marion Bay and I`m told there`s worse coming tomorrow,

All the pools at Edith Falls were cold.
The sun sets at about 6:40.
I was having a lot of fun shooting Mum. She was sort of screaming.
The fish was a flathead, not a flat hat. That was a typo.
Mum and dad want to try croc but haven’t yet.
It is boiling here. I wish there was a freezer I could hop in.

I think there were about 190 fish. Dad thinks there were a lot more than that. 1000s.

I want to know why there were no crocodiles in the water when you were feeding the fish – or were there some there but you weren’t worried about them?

Hi Lynette,
There weren’t any crocs there. We aren’t stupid, we don’t go into water when there are salties around. The salties prefer the rivers to the sea.
