Mataranka – Bitter Springs

Bitter Springs evening

Days 9 – 12

We stayed just out of Mataranka near Elsey National Park. We spent most of out time here swimming at Bitter Springs. Bitter Springs is warm- 32 degrees Celsius. The springs feed into Little Roper River, where we floated and swam along a 500 metre section.

Here is Matt wearing his mask. Dad took lots of photos with his Go Pro Hero 3.

Che used his mask and snorkel and spent most of his time under water.

This is me with spectacles in Mataranka Thermal Pool. Mataranka Thermal Pool was cooler than Bitter Springs. Mum thought it was too crowded and had too much concrete. We all liked Bitter Springs better.

This is what we saw when we walked to Bitter  Springs. We saw a dead Green Tree Snake near here too.

Here is a salty trap in the Roper River. They remove them once they’re caught and they let them go somewhere else.

Looks so beautiful! What a great adventure!

I enjoyed seeing the photos of you swimming and reading about it. 32 degrees seems warm enough!! But there were no photos or reports on Kristin swimming. Did she swim?
Why is it called Bitter Springs? Is the water bitter (or better)?
The crocodile trap was on the Roper River, while you were swimming in the Little Roper River. Do crocodiles get into the Little Roper River?

GORGEOUS PHOTOS!! I wish I was there with you! And I wouldn’t mind Go Pro Hero 3 either!!!
How do you know they’ve caught all the crocs?

  4. Room 9

We just read your blog so far and we thought everything you have done looks really interesting. Your pictures look great. Where are you going next? Seeing you swimming made us want to swim too, but it is way too cold to go swimming in Adelaide right now! We wish we could all go there too. Can you bring all of Room 9 next time? Haha Have you gone to Dalhowsy Springs? Tom wanted to know. We hope you are enjoying your trip and we really look forward to hearing more about it. Take care. From your classmates in Room 9

      Hi Room 9,
It would be good if you all came up here on a camp.
Tom, we haven’t gone to Dalhowsy Springs.
